I've told the story a thousand times,
because it's not just a good
testimonial about the kind of friend
Glen is, but it's a testimonial about
how any friend *ought* to be: the
night I was angry, and selfishly so;
my bruised hand and two 40oz malt-
liquors demonstrated my determination
to be the sole participant in my
feelings. When Glen arrived I ignored
him and drank as though I were alone,
while he quietly sat and smoked
cigarettes near-by and drove home the
reality that I indeed was not alone.
Ever since I've humbly remembered
this, and the fact that I'm always not
alone. Feelings are for the sharing.
Thank you, Glen, for teaching me the
great existential truth that nothing
bears meaning in isolation, even
(especially) human beings.
